Hi,
I (like many others in this forum) recently bought my first bonsai tree. I'm led to believe it is an Ulmus, not sure which variety. Nor do I know exactly how old it is...?? ('~')
I was told by the store assistant that as it is Winter I should not have to water it more than twice a week. Also that it is okay to keep it indoors. Just over a week after purchase I noticed the leaves wilting slightly and that the surface of the soil was hard and dry (I'm hoping there was still moisture under the surface). My book tells me this is very bad... :(
I watered it yesterday and the soil seemed to drain properly.
I keep my tree indoors, where it is not exposed to too much direct sunlight. I live in North England, UK - so it's pretty cold at the moment and the room isn't too stuffy, but when I first bought it I left it in the living room for a few days - perhaps this caused the soil to dry out.
I also read however that Ulmus trees may shed there leaves for new ones, but I can't tell yet if there are any new shoots yet...
Can anyone tell if my tree is in need of urgent assistance from the attachment?
