Bonsai changing color
2006/04/19 12:00 I've had my bonsai for about year and it was a gift. I'm not sure I'm doing well at taking care of it since the ends are turning brown now. I love this plant and need help to rescue it.

I'm not sure what type it is, but hopefully the picture will help. I keep the soil moist and it is kept indoors. It doesn't get a whole lot of direct sunlight.

What am I doing wrong?

Re:Bonsai changing color
2006/04/23 15:02 Your picture of Juniperous Procunbens nana an outdoor plant, that will toletare indoor conditiond with correct lighting, has indications of a Spider Mite infestation.
I suggest an outdoor location in semi-shade, watered every other day and fertilized with 20-20-20 alternating with Fish Emultion every 2 weeks.
These little spiders are so small that as much as 20 of them can fit on a head of a strait pin. My formula of a user friendly solution: Spray bottle add level teaspoon of Concentrated Palmolive dishwasher solution fill with water. Spray on plant top and bottom of leaves/needles till plant looks like a huge soap sud, leave the solution on for 1/2 hour and then rince off. It is OK to allow the soap to rinse through the root system as it will nor harm the plant. The oil in the soap will coat and kill the Spider mites.
This spray method is a contact killer and will have to be readministered at least 2 more times one weekapart as eggs are hatching and the new additions should be take care off or they in turn will reproduce. This is a good Insect controll program as it can be used on Scale, Aphids and Mealybug too,
I have used this mixture successfully on Wasps and Bees too.
