Re:How do I get started?
2005/10/02 16:23 Hi Matilda. We're working on an article that will help you get started in bonsai. This is a pretty broad question as it is...wait for us to publish this article and it should answer a lot of your basic questions. If there are specific questions that you have, post them in the "Bonsai Help" forum. We're pretty friendly here and will do what we can to point you in the right direction.

And lastly, welcome to BonsaiTree.com. ;)

2005/10/04 21:35 Hello Matilda, I am impressed that at 11 you are interested in a hobby like Bonsai. There are Instructors around the country if you can let me know where you are located i will make an attempt to locate an educational avenue for you.

Re:How do I get started?
2005/10/08 02:48 To get some info on the ideas of bonsai and a few teqniques that are used I suggest getting a book on the subject and reading about it. The next step would be finding a club, class, or instructor (as bonmore said) that can take you in depth with bonsai, its rules, and all fun stuff like that.

2007/03/07 23:46 Here is a book I have heard some good things about, Matilda:

http://www.bonsaigardener.org/ index2.html

it is by Erik Olsen, a renowned Bonsai fellow.

Joshua & Wilson

Re:How do I get started?
2007/03/09 16:10 I've never read Olsen's book, but his guerrilla marketing leaves a somewhat bad taste in my mouth. I'd say check this book out at your own risk.

Re:How do I get started?
2008/07/27 17:03 Hi Y'all,
To learn the Bonsai Basics the correct way, is to locate a Bonsai Society in your area, go to the American Bonsai Society website at absbonsai.org find a society in your area, become a member and learn from them, most books are not informative enough and at times are hard to understand. If classes are available at your local Botanical Garden - check them out, you may find something you like.

Looks like ...I did not strike a positive note.

Are you interested in Bonsai? Or...do you really just want to think that you know what a Bonsai really is?

How many plants do you have in your collection that you can honestly say that you know everything imaginable about the species.

Is it an outdoor plant and/or.. can I acclimate it to an indoor location and help it survive?

Now remember, you are attempting to grow it in a small container and not in its natural habitat.

How much water will it need ? Fertilizer.....when? how much?

How much do you really know and really, how much do you really want to know?
