Fresh and eager
2005/10/25 18:49 I bought a bonsai this evning, It's my first tree or actually my first plant ever other then cacti. But I hope it will be the first of many. Anyhow, I didn't figure out what type it is but the instructions said to water it heavy twise a week and fertilze it every other week. Its a leafy tree, the leaf gives a "furry" sensation on the bottom side when you slide your finger against it, almost simular to sliding your finger agains some sort of cotton fabrick. The top side feals like vax or the cover of a shiny magasin.
If anyone of you know what type it is it would be nice of you to shaer some pointer on how to treat it. I'm not to satisfied with its apperance, and was wondering if it is possible to cut it to fit my liking whitche would lead to abnormal trimming.

Re:Fresh and eager
2005/11/01 11:00 Hey there, sorry about the slow reply here. Hurricane Wilma has really set us behind. From the looks of the plant, it seems that it might be a Jabotacaba but the discription you give with the leaves doesn't match.

You can most certainly trim it back to your liking, however I will leave it to Merv or another member to say how much is safe. Either way, welcome to the board. As soon as we get some power, I'll get Merv to drop his 2 cents here.

Re:Fresh and eager
2005/11/09 21:13 Jabotacaba's trunk will peal during the summer months exposing darker (splotched) areas under the bark, giving it a very interesting look, therefore, I cannot agree with Placers identification of this tree.

Not being sure of the variety of plant makes it impossible to give pertanent growing information, maybe a closeup picture of a leaf could help, if this is possible please do so ASAP lets see what we can do to help you further your knowledge about this plant.

2007/03/28 15:21 It's not necessary to post the same item in two different threads. Just post it once in the best place and it will get seen.

As far as your site is concerned, it seems great but it's missing pictures of Wilson's progress. Would be great to see this.
